A post-2015 Range Rover will set me back over £30,000 and will not require an MoT – it is therefore a desirable target for theft – a new one is double that.
As standard, the car is fitted with a tracking device. Criminals know this but what they also know is that they have a reasonable window of opportunity in which to drive without fear of detection … and even if the theft is reported, they are aware there is no joined-up thinking … the police do not speak to the manufacturer, the manufacturer does not speak to the insurer, no-one speaks to claims investigators without first demanding a consent from the owner, the tracking company may not be permitted to request immediate data from the SIM air-time supplier … and so it goes on.
These matters are highly time sensitive, and yet the processes which could detect an ongoing crime are inherently handicapped to cause delay.
Start talking, let it be known this is occurring.
If a tracking device is in a vehicle, ANY movement without the key in the ignition should raise an alert. The insured and insurer can be notified about the potential and the vehicle being stolen identified before the owner might have noticed that it is missing.
