A Freedom of Information At approach was made to the West Midlands Police Crime Commissioner:
I again ask the source of your statement;
- ‘The introduction of keyless technology has also led to the dramatic increase’ & use of ‘technology to get around the onboard electronic security systems, such as copying digital keys or using devices to stop a car from locking’
- WMP appear to have no knowledge of it – please see: https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/vehicle_theft_methodology_821a22
02/09/2022 the WMPCC ‘s office responded:
With regard to one of your previous FOI requests (made on 14 November 2020), one of the points you asked for was:
- The evidence vehicle security/bypass (keyless theft) is to blame for increased car thefts.
This is substantially the same question as your most recent request as detailed above, and I am
afraid that the response remains the same. You were informed that the Office of the Police and Crime
Commissioner does not hold any information on this subject.
In our most recent response to you
(16 June 2022) we suggested that you contact West Midlands Police to see if they hold the
information you seek, but I can see that they are also unable to help.
I am sorry if you are disappointed, but I am afraid there is nothing further we can do to assist you
on this matter.
