- Under what circumstances can a stolen vehicle be seized in your country?
A local diffusion is issued in our country on the vehicles after receiving a report from the NCB Interpol of the requesting country and the stolen vehicle is added to our local list of stolen vehicle.
- What channels are used to notify the owner of the vehicle’s location (Interpol or other)?
On locating or seizure of the vehicle by our police, its case is sent to the competent prosecution to take the following decisions.
Hand over the vehicle to its present owner who undertakes not to take any measures like selling or renting the vehicle.
The vehicle’s requesting country is requested to provide us with all details and theft investigations like names of accused persons and the place of export.
All evidences are introduced to the competent judicial authority, which in turn issues a decision asking the requesting country to forward a request for assistance through diplomatic channels in coordination with Interpol Abu Dhabi as well as asking the real owner of the vehicle in the requesting country to come to the UAE to lodge before the court a civil lawsuit in the Emirate in which the vehicle was seized, also the requesting country have to submit an undertaking to deal according to reciprocity with the UAE in similar cases.
In case the vehicle real owner in the requesting country agrees to come to our country to raise a lawsuit before our judicial authorities, the requesting country’s Interpol bureau should inform us about that and confirm to us if owner will come or his representative who should accompany with him a power of attorney and he has to refer to our department in order to provide him with an official letter to continue his procedures.
All measures mentioned above are judicial measures and applied on all seized and stolen vehicles in the UAE.
To avoid entry of stolen and international wanted vehicles to our country, our concerned authorities conduct verification measures on all imported vehicles to the UAE at all its crossing points using i24/7 system and on discovering the wanted vehicle. It is recovered to its source country.
