Asked to provide PNC LoS information for the periods 01/01/2023 to 31/12/2023 and 01/01/2024 to 31/12/2024, the Authroity responded:
The Home Office hold some, but not all, of the information you have requested. The Home Office holds an extract of data on the details of vehicles stolen in England and Wales between 01/01/2024 and 31/08/2024 inclusive.
14/04/202, the Home Office was asked to explain the above response. 16/05/2025 The Home Office responded to the questions as follows:
- what is the source* of this data, PNC Bureau or direct access, in turn,
1)The data includes vehicles which were recorded on the Police National Computer (PNC) as stolen between 01/01/2024 and 31/08/2024 at the time the data was extracted from the PNC (September 2024).
- why does the data not extend to the end of 2024 and
2) The data is extracted from the PNC by a team outside of the Home Office with access to the PNC. This data extract is then sent to the Home Office.
- why is 2023 unavailable?
3 and 4) The regular supply of data from the PNC is in aggregate form, so not at the level of detail described in your request. We do hold some record-level data, but only for the period we supplied as part of our response. We do not hold any record-level data for the remainder of 2024 or any of 2023.
- what other fields are available – for example, constabulary,
5) Other fields in the dataset include: the police force area and sub-police force region where the vehicle was stolen, police force area and sub-police force region where the vehicle was recovered, the registration date of the vehicle, Vehicle Identification Number, Vehicle Registration, and recovery date..
