I do not profess to be a Freedom of Information Act expert.
The following is provided to assist and follows the ICO’s presentation of ‘AI FoI Guidance’ that appears to assist Authorities who, it is reasonable to assume, have specialist staff/departments, trained and paid to consider requests.
A template request for your preferred AI service:
I want to make a Freedom of Information request to a UK public authority. Please help me draft a clear, concise and focused request for recorded information only.
The subject is:
- [insert subject]
The background material is:
- [paste article / correspondence / notes]
Please produce:
- A short FOI request of no more than two paragraphs.
- Numbered information points, if more than one item is requested.
- Wording that avoids legal argument, complaint language, speculation or unnecessary background.
- A version that asks for the narrowest useful recorded information likely to be held.
- A short note explaining whether the request may be too broad and how it could be narrowed.
Do not invent facts, legislation, case law or ICO decisions. If something is uncertain, say so.
