Subject: Crime and Policing Bill

Good afternoon,

Tomorrow will see the ‘Crime and Policing Bill’ introduced to Parliament. An aspect highlights and seeks to address ‘car signal jammers’.

But is the extent to which this equipment is used known, are there legitimate uses for such kit and do we need a new law?

Time to:

1. Make s.25 of the Theft Act 1968 an arrestable offence,
2. Increase the risk for criminals of committing the ‘devastating’ crime of vehicle taking
3. Address the UK’s appalling attention to the crime?

Please read more here – https://carcrime.uk/250222-met-police-jammers/

Much about vehicle ‘taking’ allegations has not been considered – or is ignored – such as the 19-page document I submitted to the 2019 Vehicle Crime Taskforce ceased shortly after its commencement!

I also note that, at last, someone else is reiterating my long-held belief:

  • “Vehicle manufacturers have made significant strides in improving security over the past three decades, effectively shifting vehicle crime from low-level criminals to organised gangs,”
    Mr Billyeald, Thatcham

As I have explained before, all were duped in 2000, for years – the reduced incidence of vehicle ‘taking’ (as opposed to ‘theft’) was simply the unprofessional and disorganised (‘casual’) crooks being designed out – my comments can be found here – https://carcrime.uk/vehicle-taking-picking-the-low-hanging-fruit/

I believe there is much that can be done to address the issue and hope you will find my web site https://carcrime.uk/ to be of assistance

Please could you amend the fact sheet @ https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/crime-and-policing-bill-2025-factsheets/crime-and-policing-bill-serious-crime-factsheet

The offence is s25 of the Theft Act 1968 – ‘going equipped’ – not s5
