The Joint Action Group on Lorry Theft was established in March 1994.
JAGOLT has been influential in bringing together representatives from Home Office, ACPO, insurers, haulage and security and provides a strategic overview of the nature and extent of LGV theft in the UK. It is a multi agency forum through which criminal activity is addressed by several approaches.
Key themes included crime prevention through manufacturer, aftermarket and driver and owner responsibilities, promotion of best practice and awareness, information/intelligence exchange, police operational activity and improved training and awareness.
JAGOLT has recently delivered advice leaflets and a “Too Big to Stop” training DVD, which has been distributed to every police force in the UK. Future projects include an interactive DVD, development of ‘Park Mark’ safer parking schemes and increased security of LGV via Thatcham accreditation and group rating.
